Many corners across Hanoi can become very poetic and romantic this particular time of the year, as the trees there are now full of yellow and red leaves.

The majority of trees along the streets of Hanoi, namely ‘Bang’ (Terminalia catappa), ‘Loc vung’ (Barringtonia acutangula), and ‘Bang lang’ (Giant Crape-myrtle), usually shed their leaves in late February and early March.

Before the process takes place, their leaves turn from green to yellow or red, creating a beautiful scene which is adored by many citizens as well as tourists.

The fallen leaves make the picture even more scenic as they fill local sidewalks and roadways.

This is also a perfect occasion for local residents and visitors to take some of the most memorable photos of the city’s unique beauty.

“I grew up in Hanoi, but I always get very excited when the city enters this time of the year, as if it was my first time to see such a phenomenon,” said Ngo Thi Phuong Dung, a local office worker.

Dung and her colleagues prepared their best camera to capture this romantic scenery.

Kim Thanh, another citizen, said she and her friends often don their traditional ‘ao dai’ to take photos with the trees and leaves.

“It is very lovely. You don’t have to travel to another country to admire trees with yellow and red leaves,” Thanh stated.
